With a hermetic plot, the movie explores the snowball effect of a wrong number, and the result is the usual messy mayhem that ensues.
Anyway, it has some moments, even if I failed to fully understand the meaning of the color dashes. Was this review helpful? Sign in to vote. Saw this at Phantasmagoria and was really impressed.
It's a black comedy loaded with twists and turns despite being set almost entirely in a hotel room. The film-makers shot on a rare type of black-and-white film stock and suffered for their decision as the film took something like ten years to complete. The result is definitely worth it as the visual look of the film is stunning. The actors are fantastic throughout aided by a really tight script and there are some truly gripping sequences.
The fantastic Herrman-esquire score also helps maintain a consistent atmosphere. There are also some very ambitious shots in there! I saw this excellent Noirish comedy thriller at the Phantasmagoria festival this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. The whole cast deliver first rate performances and the film has an excellent visual style, as well as paying generous homage to the classic thrillers of yesteryear and also very modern elements like some splendid and justified female nudity and mobile phone usage.
The tangled plot is always intriguing and almost plays out as a jet black farce. The production design is excellent and the hotel location where most of the film plays out feels suitably claustrophobic and seedy.
